  • Text Fields - Apply to pre-defined fields such as campaigns, departments, usernames, etc.
  • Numeric Fields - Apply to data values such as number of visitors, page views, posts, etc.
  • Date and Time - Apply time based filters to your data from as specific as fractions of a second, to as broad as years, depending on the report and data available.
  • Portal Tree Hierarchy - Apply page hierarchy filters to your data based on a page level within your portal, and its related child pages.

The Reset Filters button at the top right of the Power BI report page allows you to quickly revert all filters on your report to their default settings. This feature is especially useful if you have applied multiple filters to explore your data and want to start over with a clean slate.

In addition to filters, you may also highlight information. This will not remove unrelated information but will focus on a specific set of data, and dim other data. While in Reading View, you may use multiple filters and highlights across your data sets. Selecting more than one filter will apply both filters to your data. For example, if you would like to filter a Portal Growth report by department and time range, and filter using fields labeled "Marketing" and " D20162016," then you will see all Portal Growth and activity from the Marketing team during the year 2016.

You can easily drill down in a visualization in Power BI as detailed here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-drill-down-in-a-visualization/#method-1-for-drill-down

Portal Tree Hierarchy

The easiest simplest way to scope any narrow down a report to a specific site collection (or a specific particular subsite, library, list, etc.) is to add the Hierarchy Slicer visual to the report:

...

by using the Portal Tree Filter:

  1. To filter the report, expand the tree to find the part of the portal you are interested in, and mark the box next to it. That will automatically filter all the visuals in the report to reflect on that particular part of the portal.

  2. Please note that a "(Blank)" entry may appear in the Portal Tree filter when there is usage data (events) recorded for SharePoint items not shown in the hierarchy. These items are either located deeper in the hierarchy or are not part of the top 5 levels displayed by default.

Specific URL

The easiest simplest way to scope any narrow down a report to a specific tree specific tree item (URL) is to add the is by adding Slicer visual to the report:

  1. Make sure you are working on a copy of the report (and not the original), then click on Edit report from the top menu:

  2. Open the Visualizations menu on the right, and select the Slicer visual:

  3.  Select the Tree Url column under the Content | SharePoint Tree table and then search for the URL:

...

  1. User account name (UPN), display name and email address
  2. SharePoint group names
  3. SharePoint user profile attribute values (configurable, you can select which attributes to conceal and which ones not to conceal in the CardioLog Analytics SaaS configuration page).

Hence, it is not possible to filter reports by specific users, groups and/or concealed user profile attributes when PII concealment is enabled.

Row Level Security

Row Level Security is a powerful feature designed for site owners to access reports exclusively for their own sites. By implementing this feature, you ensure that each site owner accesses only the data relevant to their site, leading to improved efficiency, focus, enhanced data protection, and optimized performance.

Benefits of Row Level Security

  1. Enhanced Data Protection: Row Level Security ensures that each site owner has access only to the data for their specific site. This prevents unauthorized access and enhances overall data security.

  2. Tailored Data Views: Row Level Security allows for customized data views tailored to each site owner. This means that site owners will only see data that is directly relevant to their responsibilities, increasing efficiency and productivity.

  3. Optimized Performance: With Row Level Security in place, site owners will experience faster report loading times and smoother operations by accessing smaller, more relevant datasets.

By utilizing Row Level Security, you can ensure data protection, improve performance, and provide tailored data views for each site owner. This feature enhances the overall user experience and contributes to the efficient management of your SharePoint portal.

How to Implement Row Level Security

To enable Row Level Security, follow the steps in the configuration guide, to select the users and groups you would like to grant report permissions to and specify the specific sites they should see reports for.
