This report displays the average number of page views your SharePoint website receives over time. A page view is a single instance of a page being loaded by a browser. Each view of the same SharePoint page by the same visitor is counted as an independent page view.

Average Number of Page Views Chart Widget

Available Report Widgets

Chart

The chart widget displays the average number of views over time for all pages that your SharePoint Site receives, or all page views for a specific level of your portal hierarchy. You can choose what pages will be monitored in the widget preferences.

The average is calculated according to the value selected in the "Time Interval" field as follows:

  •  Hour - Average number of unique users per minute
  • Day - Average number of unique users per hour
  • Week - Average number of unique users per day
  • Month - Average number of unique users per day
  • Quarter - Average number of unique users per month
  • Year - Average number of unique users per month

For example, if the date range of the report is "Last Month" and:

  • The Time Interval is "Day", the average number of unique users will be calculated per hour of the day, and displayed for each day of the month.
  • The Time Interval is "Week", the average number of unique users will be calculated per day, and displayed for each week of the month.

Therefore, when the Time Interval is "Day" and a user visits the site in the morning and in the afternoon, they will be counted in the total number of unique visitors for each hour. If a user visits twice in the same hour though, they will be counted only once in that hour. Similarly, for each week of the month we count the total number of unique visitors per day and calculate the average in that week, so if a user visits the site in the morning and in the afternoon on a given day, they will be counted once.
